@levelsio Skateboarders criticized Tony Hawk. "That's not a skateboarder."

Hockey players criticized Wayne Gretzky. "He's too small to play pro."

People critique when they feel threatened.

Ultimately, it's your commitment to continuously pursue the results you want that matters.

This is one reason why the startup mantra "ideas don't matter, execution matters" isn't quite right.

Execution is part of the picture, but even great execution is going to have to reckon with the chaos of reality.

On @HardcoreHistory, Dan illustrates the truth about going from "idea to reality."

Even when you've considered every theoretical angle, it's the chaos of reality that rules supreme.

@tenlinesofcode @seanwes Yes. This is true. (It's essentially what I did between 2012-2015)

But... once you go full time on product it's not always easy to "go back" to consulting. That pipeline of client work takes time to reestablish.

"Be a solopreneur!"

Starting your own business can bring freedom, but it also comes with substantial risks that most founders don't consider.

@CADbloke This is really the low starting bar for affordability.

It's based on a "three bedroom apartment."

A mortgage, good neighborhood, etc.. is even more.

@Time_is_ticking Sure.

However, in North America, if you have kids + a mortgage, you'll need at least $10k / month in most markets.

The bigger issue is reducing risk by:
- reducing other expenses
- saving more of the profit

@Time_is_ticking It all depends.

If I'd reduced my expenses by 50% (totally doable), my salary by 22%, and only lost 25% of revenue, I would have been OK.

Just canceled Medium and Audible.

Only $5 and $14.95 respectively, but I wasn't really using either of them.

I thought I would love Medium membership, but it felt like the articles became more irrelevant to me after subscribing. 🤷‍♂️

I like Audible but have 10 books in my queue!

@natalienagele 👋 I've been running http://megamaker.co/club since 2013.

We have 324 lifetime members, and about 100 of them are active at a time.

With that said, Tacklebox looks like it could be a great fit for her.
Of our active members, only 5% are women (I'm trying to fix that).

Really smart sendoff from @iamashley at the end of her podcast.

Podcasters: at the end of each show, encourage listeners to take one action. 👍
