Another challenge with Spotify stats:

Apple Podcasts gives us "Average consumption" percentages. Meaning, if your show is 40 mins, and most folks listen to 32 mins, "consumption" is 79%.

On Spotify, however, a listen is "anything over 60 seconds."

🤔 Also, is Anchor calculating these averages "per show" or just using their total numbers for their whole platform?

In that case, one show could be overrepresenting Spotify.

Still, besides a few outliers, on http://Transistor.fm we're not seeing Spotify numbers hit 19% (like Anchor is seeing).

Other friends I have in the business say Spotify is generally 5%-10% for them.

This could be a demographics thing. It sounds like (anecdotally) Android folks are switching to Spotify for podcasts.

For example, if you search "Couples Therapy" on Spotify you get a list like this.

With this UX, is it possible people are looking for the artist/song but clicking the podcast accidentally?

@cport1 I guess it depends on the demographics...

But for tech-related shows, it's generally:

1. Apple Podcasts
2. Overcast
3. Pocket Casts

@tcodinat Crazy! You're the second person to say this.

Anecdotally, I don't know anyone who uses Spotify.

And, I'm not seeing it represented in our stats either.

So you're saying your friends all use Spotify to listen to podcasts?

@cport1 Wait. Are you serious? Like you and all your friends use Spotify to listen to podcasts?

One exception: one of our shows has 87% of its listens coming from Spotify.

BUT... I have strong suspicion that a lot of those listens are coming from keyword error.

Meaning: folks are searching for *music* and mistakingly think the podcast is a playlist / album / song.

These Anchor podcasting stats don't seem quite right to me.

Feels like Spotify is being way overrepresented.

On http://Transistor.fm, even our most popular shows are only seeing 0.1% - 1% of their listens coming from Spotify.
