@cgimmer @thepatwalls It hasn’t actually done the democratizing yet.

“Democratized” would mean that it’s widely distributed and easily used.

Bitcoin is not easy to get, easy to store, or easy to use as currency.

The risk with overemphasizing "execution" is it deludes people into thinking that if they work hard enough, they can make any idea successful.

Previously, I thought this way: "the govt is either playing with supposed “taxpayer money” or “burdening our grandchildren.""

But now I'm chewing on this:

"In reality, the govt always spends money into private circulation and then it taxes it back out after the fact."

Another misinterpretation:

"Market with demand" ≠ "Popular" or "easy" market

None of this is easy. Most good opportunities are not obvious (especially to outsiders).

You're looking for evidence of unmet demand in a category that you understand!

"It's the market. People don't get it. It's the market. If the market is missing, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter how well you execute or how well you understand how to build the product. There have to be people who want to transact with you." – @fulligin

Asking a small business to collect and remit sales taxes to dozens of different government entities is ridiculous.

The result? Tons of non-compliance. It’s just too much work for most companies.

@VCFryer @hnshah I think if the customer is ready to buy, they don’t need to be told the benefits. They just need to know:

a) are they in the right place (does this product do what they want it to do)
b) can they trust you

@nbashaw It took me awhile to get used to it, but now I love it.

It’s great to be able to say: “you know what? I don’t want to hear from the person/org again.” And then it’s just gone.

You’re not lodging a spam complaint against them, you’re just not inviting them into your space.

In a 1966 doc, Ernie Chambers responds to a minister:

"Why are you talking to me? You guys pulled the strings that closed schools. You guys draw the boundaries. So it's up to you to talk to your brothers and persuade them that they have a responsibility."

Increasingly, I’m skeptical of folks guessing what other people’s incomes are.

Take for example, Joe Rogan.

I’ve seen some folks estimate that he was making as much as $50 - $100 million / year from his podcast.

Forbes pins it ar $30 million.

All of those connections helped me to spot the opportunity that eventually became @TransistorFM.

@BrianNorgard Tech folks keep saying this, but I don’t see regular consumers complaining. Most listeners seem to be figuring it out.

The publishing experience can definitely be improved, but it’s not that much more difficult than setting up a blog or YouTube channel.

Looking for the best plans (especially since, from experience, I know the dimensions matter A LOT)

Supply generally follows demand.

This makes sense! Customer demand increases, entrepreneurs respond to that demand by supplying a solution.

For example, Airbnb hosts respond to demand; they don't create it.

@realjefflarge In my experience, dynamic ads eventually lead to this, because the tech is designed to treat ads like “inventory.”

The creative element isn’t considered.

The dynamic ads aren’t smart enough to consider the context surrounding the ad spot.

Interactions with people outside your normal circle will have the biggest impact.

These “collisions” open up new opportunities:

- You run into someone at an event who has a career you never knew existed.
- You start a relationship that turns into a partnership 5 years later.

Too many companies make their profits by outsourcing the true cost of their products to the public.

This is also true in tech, and with startups.

(And yes, also true for my company!)

In the future, the public will demand that corporations and governments are responsible for their externalities.

The airline industry should have to pay to clean the air it pollutes.

Manufacturers should be responsible for the entire lifecycle of their products.

The other challenge: it's hard to stop a successful company from growing!

"Now the bad news. Let's say all of this works: you create this little company and it's making $30k a month in profit. What happens next? It keeps growing that's what it does."

Here's another excerpt:

"The journey from product-user fit to product-market fit tends to go:

1. Build something people want.
2. Then, explore how many other people also want that thing.
3. Finally, get your product in their hands as fast as possible."

You can target a speciality niche, but there should be millions of them (instead of thousands).

If the market you target only has 1,000 people worldwide, that's likely not going to be enough to sustain a business. (Except in edge cases)

ONE-THIRD OF CONSUMERS WATH ESPORTS ONCE A WEEK?

Only 22% (62 million) listen to podcasts weekly.
