@seanwes In a sense.

I think "good" can mean different things to different people.

To me, the product has to offer an outcome that is desirable to customers.

@peldi got close with:

"If your product is remarkable, getting noticed is a lot easier."

But it's largely about outcomes.

Next we have @podysseyapp.

Search rating: very good

While not well known, and a little clunky on the UX front, Podyssey did a pretty good job.

Results: allowed me to search for keywords in episodes, and revealed 20-30 matches.

Every business takes time to get going.

BUT...

Some businesses get to scale faster than others.

Why?

It almost always comes down to:

1. Your target market
2. Your brand's positioning
3. The way you built the product
4. The efficacy of your marketing channels

@arlogilbert When you said "MailChimp is an extraordinarily rare example," I thought you were implying survivor bias, so I flipped it and asked: "Ok, what factors contribute to startup failure?"

I think the factors that contribute to business' success can't be developed overnight.

My friend @jonfriesen also mentions that Kubernetes could also help fight the centralization of internet power:

"If you do it right you can switch from cloud provider to cloud provider with relative ease."

This is one reason why the startup mantra "ideas don't matter, execution matters" isn't quite right.

Execution is part of the picture, but even great execution is going to have to reckon with the chaos of reality.

Thankfully, there are some new models (like Tiny Seed Fund, @earnestcapital, and @indievc ).

These are new funding vehicles for entrepreneurs who just want to build a reasonably profitable business.

- Fireworks. (Sketch comes close, but still not quite there)
- Dreamweaver for editing HTML emails. (Still the best editor for building table layouts)

🤔 When we're looking at what's trending on Reddit, Buzzfeed, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc... how much have that is being determined by the behavior of kids and teens?

Platforms like YouTube optimize for "number of minutes watched."

Kids and teens are going to win that contest every time.

This means platforms like YouTube are increasingly optimizing around the habits of kids and teens.

This is different than what gets popular on network TV. If you look at the top ten list, you can see it's primarily influenced by an older demographic:

📰 The Washington Post is 132 years older than Minecraft.
🎮 But Minecraft sold for 10x more.

(Minecraft currently has 75 million monthly users, Washington Post has ~75 million readers)

🎤 ATR2100 USB - dynamic mic, very good sound for the price.

🎧 Sennheiser HD 202 II

💻 For editing Garage Band, Audacity. I actually like Screenflow!

📊 For hosting + analytics I like @TransistorFM (but I'm biased 😁)

🤔 So why did I pay to see @John_Fogerty live?

🎧 Because I grew up listening to CCR. In the USA alone CCR has sold 26 million records.

🎸 John is a legend. He's been a star for a long time.

💵 I paid to see him live because I know his hits. There's lots of nostalgia at play.

First thought: you have to film + edit videos *before* you upload them to #IGTV.

There is a lot of opportunity in the App Store for the "portrait video" and "edit portrait video" keywords.

"Helping people make progress in their lives."

I'm building @TransistorFM with @jonbuda this year, and we're not confident about a lot of things!

But... we're really trying to listen to customers, and help make their lives better.
