“People in an Idea Lab don’t usually take arguments personally because Idea Lab culture is built around the core notion that people and ideas are separate things. People are meant to be respected, ideas are meant to be batted around and picked apart.”

Got an overhead bar installed today.

Did a few lighting experiments with a few lights we had laying around.

I’ll show you what the shots look like next. 👍

@aarondfrancis I made a fairly profound life choice about ~14 years ago, partly because of people replying to me on Reddit.

I’ll tell you about it sometime. (Maybe when we’re in Belgium!)

@Lockedown_ @bluesky @arcalinea The whole app is in beta. They didn’t expect this level of interest yet.

It’s a tiny team (~5 devs?)

Their team just burned the midnight oil to deliver blocks.

Apparently, Bluesky's waitlist has over one million+ people on it. The team is slowly rolling out invites to 1,000 people per week.

I just updated my piece on this here:

The team is also not using invite codes to “hack growth” or create FOMO.

They’re building this airplane in the air, trying to keep all the engines running.

It's still very much a WIP. Lots of wrinkles to iron out.

Lots of false narratives circulating about @bluesky (especially in the media coverage I've seen):

- The CEO is @arcalinea (not Jack Dorsey!!)
- Dorsey is an investor and one of three board members

I don't love the "abundance / scarcity mindset" dichotomy...

BUT, there was a part of me that believed that it would be easier for me to earn enough revenue for myself and my family than to have enough revenue for ~people (and their families).

A good team + good business…

To be clear, I tried other partnerships before that didn't work out (for various reasons).

And... one thing that's helped with Transistor is it gave us the resources to have margin in our lives (and to share that margin with our team).

The "engine" of the company has to work.

The idea of being a solopreneur used to appeal to me.

In my mind, it meant less drama, less pressure to increase revenue, and more autonomy.

Two things changed my mind:

1. Partnering with Jon on @TransistorFM
2. Hiring a great team

Working with great people makes life better.

And (on the other side) I think governments should make starting a small business less stressful. 👍

Physically I feel my age.

Intellectually/mentally I feel my age. (I’ve learned and experienced a ton since my 20s).

It’s more like “spiritually” I feel younger than I am.

So now I’m just feeling the reverse! 😜

As a kid, I always assumed that older adults “felt their age.”

Now I’m nearly 43, but in my head I feel about 25.

I’ve learned that I’m not the only one! This phenomenon is called “subjective age.”

How about you? What age do you “feel” you are?

@ianlandsman @mateusjatenee Governments (especially the G8 and the EU) could introduce legislation that effectively slows down AI research by the big firms (Microsoft, Google, etc) until we can better understand what's in the black box.

Taxing negative externalities is often discussed, but the G8 + EU must…

@ianlandsman @mateusjatenee From a technical policy POV, I'd defer to AI experts like Dr. Stuart Russell who believes we shouldn't move forward until we understand what the black box is doing.

From econocmic policy POV, we need to (finally) enact policy that shares the upside of automation with workers.

@ianlandsman @mateusjatenee What you’re calling “doom and gloom” I feel is more:

“Let’s take a moment to really consider the ramifications.”

I like AI! I use it.

But I’m simultaneously concerned about it.

Being concerned isn’t automatically “doom and gloom”. 🙄
