Men: which Pedro style would you wear?

Ok. Just for fun on a Friday (based on my previous tweet) let's do a poll:

MEN: which of these Pedro Pascal styles would you actually wear?

PARTNERS OF MEN: which style would you like to see your man wear?

A few questions for men:

1. How often do you buy clothes?
2. How do you decide on "your look?"
3. Do you follow anyone for style advice?
4. What's the last thing you bought?

(trying to get better at "fashion")

I didn't love the threat of "smoke in August," but to have this so early (in the spring!)? Not good.

Here's the wildfire smoke forecast for today:
https://firesmoke.ca/forecasts/current/

A massive portion of Canada and the United States is affected (to varying degrees) by smoke from burning fires.

BC and Alberta have been breaking heat records up to 37C (98F) all of May.

Alright, presenting my giant backdrop of (transistor) radios! 📻

(Well, technically, many of them are tube radios. But they're all cool).

Feels like I need to bump up the brightness on my key light.

We're also thinking of backlighting these with leds.

I've described podcasts as "slow" media. It's a mindful medium.

And, because it's an open protocol, no centralized company can try to juice it to increase engagement.

tl;dr – in the same way that Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, Apple Mail all render HTML differently in the email world 👉 Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, etc all render HTML differently in the podcast world.

This wasn’t a red-bull-infused

Very calm. People just did what they wanted. Some just came to hang out and have a drink. Others showed demoed what they were working on.

Mostly just listening to music together, working on laptops, and being social. 👍

A few photos from hack night last night.

We rented a bar, people brought their laptops, worked on side-projects, demoed some stuff on stage, and hung out.

I think we had 20-30 people total?

Really great (especially for a small town).

At first glance, success can be perplexing:

"Why did one person succeed with that idea while another didn't?"

Often, it's the sum of "small bets" beneath the surface that matters: a person's experiences, experiments, connections, and insights gleaned over many years.

More often than not, when you see someone succeeding with a "big bet," it's because they've laid a strong foundation with hundreds of smaller bets.

The big success is a culmination of everything they've tried before.

@cemerick @asmartbear The base assertion (that our time, energy, and focus is limited) is true.

You have:
40 hours for work
40 hours for sleep
40 hours for everything else

You can’t cram an unlimited number of things in that last bucket.

Also, lots of evidence for assertions like this: “Young kids…

@mattwensing I do really like your XP metaphor. 💯

I like the perspective it provides: “your time, attention, and energy isn’t unlimited.”

Thinking in terms of “XP” feels healthy: you have a finite number of points, how do want to spend them? (No overdraft!)

@mattwensing Real talk (from my experience): the more close family members you have, the more XP required. 😅

A healthy relationship with my spouse takes a healthy amount of XP. 😉

I also want to dedicate a healthy amount of XP to each of my kids (x4).

My 20 XP is going fast!

@mattwensing The math for this gets more complicated depending on how many buckets one assumes a healthy human requires.

Personally, I think we need to add:

- Physical / mental health

And “Family” could be separate buckets (spouse, kids, etc).

Others might also have buckets like “Faith.”
