Everything you say "yes" to increases your ongoing commitments and obligations. These commitments reduce your margins.

It's what causes founders to wake up and say: "I don't like running this anymore."

"All of our competitors have this feature! If we don't add it, we'll fall behind!"

<Everyone rushes to build the feature, but it adds significant maintenance and customer support costs to the business. Soon, the team is miserable supporting the new feature.>

Employee: "Hey, can I use Elm for this project?"

<Manager thinks: "That's probably fine? It's nice to give people autonomy.">

<6 months later: the employee has left, and nobody understands how their code works. Elm has dependencies that interfere with the main stack>

In an indie business, complexity and stress are the enemies of a calm, happy founder.

Complexity is sneaky. It starts as a small decision (that feels inconsequential) but balloons into a quagmire that makes the business more stressful to run.
