Finding unprompted, publicly displayed sentiment, can be a good qualitative indicator.

To move forward, I had to let go of my ego and my cynicism.

I grieved my lost dreams.

But then, I moved on.

I focused on making progress towards new dreams, bit by bit.

The realization was this: even when life doesn't work out the way you thought it would, you can still take action, every day, to become the person you want to become.

It's not too late!

There are two quotes that helped change my thinking.

One from @JamesClear, and one from Will Smith.

It puts you in a rut.

If your life in your late 30s *isn't* going according to plan, the danger is that you'll become cynical.

That's what happened to me.

My response to my state was: "Well, fuck it then!"

Your mid-to-late 30s are a time of reckoning:

Are you where you thought you'd be?

It's the time of our life when a lot of our idealism dies; because we realize that life is more complex and difficult than we originally imagined.

The hardest part about being in my late 30s was this realization:

"My life turned out differently than I dreamed it would when I was 20."
