@_rchase_ @TransistorFM @hostifi_net Yeah! Truthfully, I've been really focused on Transistor from the beginning.😉

But it didn't feel "official" for me until I got my first paycheque (in April).

During those initial months, I was being sustained by revenue from @marketingdevs and @megamaker.

Currently, neither of us are earning an equivalent salary to what we left behind, but the company is making enough to pay our personal bills. 👍

Here's our timeline:

✍️ Feb 2018: signed partnership docs
✉️ March 2018: invited first paying (beta) customers
🎉 Aug 2018: official launch
👨‍💻 April 2019: I go full-time
👨‍💻 July 2019: @jonbuda goes full-time

Pairing solves many of my work-related struggles:

✅ Feeling unmotivated
✅ Having too many unknowns

Sitting down with someone (or using @PairWithTuple) can shrink weeks of struggle down to making a ton of progress in an hour. 😉

It was the right decision. Way simpler. 😉

@JoshuaPDawson That only works if there's a significant group of people already in motion looking for that solution.

@JoshuaPDawson I worked for a Project Management software startup.

It's a really difficult market for a number of reasons:

1. Decisions are made by committee
2. Each stakeholder wants something different (engineers just want the tool out of the way, project managers want to see everything)

Funded startups are different! They're trying to create new paradigms.

They're raising lots of money because they're trying to do something profoundly difficult: change the way people think, feel, and act.

Bootstrapped startups don't have enough money or time to do that work.

The goal with bootstrapping is not to change the way people behave!

Instead, we're trying to recognize where people are already in motion and build solutions for the direction they're headed.

We don't create the waves; we ride them.

VC-backed startups are trying to create wholesale changes in human behavior. They're not selling "software," they're selling "organizational change."

Bootstrapped startups are different. Founders have to identify a need that customers already know they have.

Interesting to read @stewart's 2014 essay ("We Don't Sell Saddles Here") in 2019.

It's a good illustration of the difference between VC-backed and Bootstrapped startups. 👉

@mnlfrgr It definitely depends on the market, the type of product you’re selling, and the outcome you’re looking for.

I’ve run $100/month+ SaaS businesses as well; we still needed a healthy number of prospects showing up each day.
