@tobi @Square @LightspeedHQ @Shopify Awesome! 🙌

Increasingly, I’m realizing that independent shops could benefit from networks (similar to the old webrings) to recommend products for adjacent stores.

Is @shopify doing anything here?

@jhooks I had to do this as well. Had just moved into a new office/studio space too. 😞

@rezzz Yes! There might be other lightweight ways to test this:

1. A Chrome extension that suggests other shops in your area with that item.

2. Small, delivery co-ops that allow local shops to ship goods faster within your town.

@ianlandsman It’s down a bit, but it really depends on the topic.

My guess is this applies to all types of media: some topics are up and some are down.

@YMarie113 @Shopify @Square @WooCommerce In retail, “buying clubs” and “buying associations” are already a thing: retailers band together and buy as a group, increasing their leverage and helping them all get a wholesale discount.

I’ve been thinking a lot about “double-enders,” but for video: where both sides have the same camera + lens and can record their scenes locally to be mashed up in editing.

@jasonlk The handful of places I’ve gone to locally in my little town have all had safe food handling + no crowds.

@dougblackjr - DM them and ask them how they’re feeling
- buy takeout / online orders if you can
- write your elected officials asking for loans / grants / relief for small biz

I'm especially frustrated because I'm seeing what small shops are up against.

I'm technical, and I can barely figure out how to get these ecommerce platforms working (while keeping it affordable).

Any help tech giants provide can give small biz a better chance of surviving. 🙏

I realize I might sound harsh, but in the past week I've tried helping 5+ local retailers move their business online, and each of these items is another piece that discourages store owners and makes them want to quit.

Fixing the checkout UI + free domain connection feels doable.

@spencerfry @Square Square just announced tons of new stuff for retailers during this outbreak, but they're missing the biggest wins.

An expedited checkout experience is crucial.

Fixing bugs like this need to be a top priority.

@mjwhansen Yup. I always feel like crap this time of year (sore throat, itchy eyes, sneezing, difficulty breathing) so there’s this constant question: “is this what I was feeling yesterday?”

Can we get a response on that?

@ScottHYoung @govbc @Canada We're testing way more people than the USA (which is 👍).

But over the next few weeks, we're going to see confirmed cases skyrocket (similar to what's happened in Italy).

“We’re going to need you to come into the branch to do that.”

I’ve had to go into the branch to get really basic questions answered. When I explained to the teller that I had USD and CAD checking accounts they looked at me like I was from another planet.

@Copypastaa Kubernetes and serverless both solve problems people were already searching for.

They’re responses to scaling problems people were actively trying to solve.

(There is tons of tech that gets created, but doesn’t solve a problem folks have, and dies because of lack of demand)
