@tylertringas Yes! That's pretty good.

The only problem is that there's a sliding scale of what "want" means.

I might want to get fit, but not have the motivation to go to the gym.

I might want a good DSLR (and buy it!) but I just end up using my iPhone because it's more practical.

@PierreDeWulf Yes. I agree with you there. 💯

That's different than what I'm talking about: at a core level, it's hard (impossible?) to generate user motivation (a long-lasting desire to use a product consistently).

@staydecent Science doesn’t care about the “cult of the individual.” It doesn’t matter how well-known a doctor is.

What’s great about science is that every claim has to be evaluated and independently replicated, multiple times.

You can’t make a claim based on reputation alone.

@MoonLamboio @APompliano But that’s ridiculous, isn’t it?

You’d expect the official Litecoin account to know what was going on?

You’d expect them to check internally first? “Hey, do we really have a partnership with Walmart?”

@louisnicholls_ @TylerMKing In one way, you *want* to focus on survivorship bias when studying SaaS.

You're looking for the characteristics of the SaaS that "made it."

If we include "all founders who start a company" the data isn't going to be helpful either (so many reasons for a business not to work)

Crypto is increasingly becoming mainstream; there has to be some accountability.

@Bonini84 @sujanpatel @TransistorFM I think the most underrated platform is everything you've built *before* you start a company (or join a company as an employee).

It's the network, connections, channels, etc. you've built over a lifetime.

@jhong @hnshah @SamuelHulick @DezBryant That’s not universally true.

We can see the benefits of forethought in urban design:

“The significance of urban planning is demonstrated every day; the streets of NYC are the product of its 1811 grid city plan, its 1860s Olmsted park plan, and its 1916 skyscraper zoning laws.”

@earthlingworks These options feel too binary, and denotes a spectrum where "hard work" is on one side, and "luck" is on the other.

"Hard work" as a blunt measurement isn't nuanced enough. (Coal miners work harder than I ever will)

Lots of other vars: knowledge, experience, frequency/exposure

@pbmarcano Before we commit to a wholesale, worldwide shift to our economic system, we should ensure we're not committing ourselves untenable energy demands (climate-wise).

Using greener energy sources for crypto also suffers from the "induced demand" problem.

@mariordev @earthlingworks @valsopi I think "working smart" misses an important nuance:

In business, no matter how "hard" or "smart" you work, it's the momentum in a given market that will ultimately determine your trajectory.

Recognizing the pull of a market often means being exposed to/immersed in it.

@earthlingworks @valsopi To me, this excerpt is an example of immersing yourself in practice and principles.

Practice: being in motion, learning intuitively what to do.

Principles: playing the game (business) by its underlying structure/rules (market-driven).

@einarvollset @cdixon Traditionally, it's govt investment/subsidies that "lead the change."

They invest before there is widespread usage, and help create the infrastructure that facilitates adoption.

(network infrastructure, interstate hwy for cars, subsidies for electric car manufacturers)

In Canada/USA, there is a lot of opposition to vaccine passports (or corona passes).

Denmark was one of the first to implement one; so I'm showing their progress so far.

(I don't necessarily agree with them lifting restrictions)

* 80% of *residents over age 12* have been vaccinated in Denmark
* Their corona passport covers vaccination, but also folks who have "recently tested negative for, or have previously been infected with COVID-19."
