@youngprotean I followed Nathan Barry’s lead there. At Convertkit he does 30%, and I’d seen how compelling that had been for affiliates. 👍

SEO, and intent-based searches are our biggest channel.

@jhooks @DanielZarick @KennethCassel 🎯 exactly.

Lots of examples of bootstrappers who are not in a scarcity mindset.

Once you have profits, and good margins, reinvesting in the evolution of the business just feels right.

@falicon Interesting, these published numbers are way below what I’ve seen.

@michaeldyrynda @JackEllis Even if they start a gaming platform, they'll still have 209 million+ subscribers who just want to sit on a couch, do nothing, and be entertained.

* not interactivity necessary.

@iamtomelliot @spencerfry Sorry; I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying my critiques were "lame, broad generalizations." 😉

I've offered lots of examples of why I think VC has systemic issues. 👍

@chrisfosterelli @mwseibel In a healthy society, we need to identify and challenge power dynamics.

It's not OK for VCs to put all of the onus on the entrepreneur.

These structures can be fixed. Power can be re-balanced.

But not if VCs wash their hands of all responsibility.

@webby2001 Thanks for the advice you gave her Tom!

She's definitely "learning by doing." 👍

@ianlandsman @TransistorFM Again, those aren’t enterprise sales demos.

I’ll keep doing demos for customers that are in our target market (mostly for learning).

What I don’t want is to be subjected to the enterprise process, which doesn’t make sense in our category. (The upside and demand isn’t there)

@scottmathson @TransistorFM @coderholic For us, it’s not worth expanding if it means adding complicated features, additional process, and hiring more people.

(Also debatable whether we’d even make much profit once we’d done all those things. You might get the expansion revenue, but not earn the profit)

@JoeMinock @Clogish We don't even have a conversion at $10k!😉

I don't think the *demand* is there.

There are enterprise-level private podcast hosting companies (uStudio and Storyboard).

They charge $250k+/year, but that requires a TON of extra weight in the company (dedicated sales, IT, legal).

@Clogish Yup. Already have that. (And we offer it every time).

Doesn't matter: these bigger companies want to get on a call or they won't budge.

@TonsOfLaziness @levelsio Yes! That's the point.

Being a founder is about stacking every advantage you have:

- skills
- capital
- insights
- expertise
- experience in a market
- network and connections

The point is to build up as many of those as you can.

@cgimmer @TransistorFM @usefathom So far, I haven't seen the need.

I already get our "number of monthly trials" from Stripe (we're credit card upfront).

Will adding it to Fathom help in another way?
