@CasJam @derrickreimer @r00k @JordanGal Yes. Managers have an existing process, and they're going to be contrasting that with @ProcessKit. They'll be saying things like:

- "Will this work for us?"
- "Let's try this for a month, and see if we like it."
-"Let's use it for a small internal project first."

Great to get an encouraging note (and chocolate!) from an internet friend today.

Thanks @johnnytong! 🙌

@bradenkeith The challenge is that most of these are "qualitative" observations:

- Stuff I'm seeing in customer conversations
- Stuff I'm noticing on social media and in forums
- Stuff I'm getting in DMs

@boaticus @donnfelker @r00k @JordanGal I understand what you're saying.

Our aim from the beginning at Transistor, was to provide more value through features, not "more downloads."

I think we'll keep downloads on the pricing chart for awhile (maybe forever), but that won't be the main focus in the future.

@boaticus @r00k @JordanGal Again, those are assumptions.😜

For example, what margins do you think WPengine is making, or even http://Carrd.co? Basecamp stores a lot of files; are they a hosting company?

People keep telling me the "rules:"
- "you can't get 80% margins because..."

@boaticus @r00k @CasJam @TransistorFM It might be 1/1000. Lol. (hard to tell, it's still early)

We are researching what that extra value looks like (and how it might fit into our higher priced tiers).

But, it still might not be worth it to put a ton of energy into one $99 user, when we could get 100 at $19.

@JordanGal I was hoping you would chime in. We should get a bunch of us on a call and have a good in-depth discussion on this.

@earthlingworks @SDMattG @garrettdimon True. You folks are definitely having a different experience.

But it feels like answering incoming messages, requests, billing fixes, bug reports, DMs, and sales questions is the norm for many SaaS founders. 😉

This is the 3rd SaaS I've worked for. All 3 had lots of inbound.

@SDMattG @earthlingworks @garrettdimon Again, good for you folks. 😜

In the past, I have seen higher price point correlate with fewer support requests, but it's not true in every situation.

Regardless, this is the market I'm in, so I've got to deal with my reality: quite a bit of inbound.

@JordanGal I've definitely seen the leverage that comes from charging more (at one SaaS, we got rid of our $19 plan and only kept our $99 plan; revenue increased).

However, this lever can also work the other way: you can decrease the price, and then sell more units, and also increase ARR.

@TalAdam DHH has said "in the first two years of Basecamp's development, he worked on it 10 hours per week."

I don't think sprinting really fast is necessarily the best strategy.

Consistent, meaningful progress is good. Too much sprinting can lead to burnout.

@phillipsharring That's the thing I'm trying to unravel a bit.

"Target a niche" has become cliche internet business wisdom these days, but it seems that the platform you build on is just as important.

@iChris My first office in #vernonbc was $200 / month + internet.

At @CoWorkVernon, it's $275 / month for a full-time desk and blazing fast internet.

Having a place "outside the home" where I work has been really important for me. 👌

@seanwes No, you're right, I missed a crucial step in there:

5. TELL PEOPLE ABOUT IT

Marketing is showing people how their lives could be better with what you've built.

(But that has to reflect the reality you've observed in their lives)

@lovevalgeisler @wardsandler @tylertringas We're definitely looking at both.

But... automated transcription still has a long way to go. I think Descript has done a decent job, but that's their whole focus (and their automated transcriptions still require a lot of editing).

"Offering the market something specific that they desire" is definitely 👍

Just as long as we acknowledge that the demand for those specializations can (and do!) change over time.
