@joecampo @WaterlooAlex @engers When you say "you" are you talking about the user?

Because, if you're the vendor *serving those customers* you will get the complaints directed at you.

Saying "it's just the customer's responsibility" is equally asinine, when the vendor could simply manage all this in Stripe.

@WaterlooAlex @engers C’mon.

So many bad scenarios here!

1. Customer forgets to cancel Apple subscription.
2. They sign up on the Android version and start paying there.
3. Even worse, they need to receive their bills on the 1st of the month, but now their Google Play bill comes on the 7th.

@engers How does that work practically?

1. I ditch my iPhone
2. Buy a new Android and log into Hey
3. I now have to create a whole new billing profile? I get charged at different time of month? I can’t access my old receipts on the platform?

@isterin @dbchhbr @SamHarrisOrg It’s OK to question the existing structures. It’s OK to evaluate alternatives. It’s OK to try other approaches.

Naturally, completely removing all police overnight is probably not wise.

Investing in alternatives to police is a good way to test their efficacy.

@JackEllis @usefathom They're following the YouTube playbook exactly.

In the early days, when YouTube wasn't the only game in town, they spend hundreds of millions of dollars attracting creators to their platform.

Once they had all the of the eyeballs they could dictate all of the terms to creators

With Transistor I’ve rarely worked over 40. (And most weeks it’s a lot less)

@KyleTibbitts @adampatterson @tcampbelltweets There are two sides to that coin.

On one side, we have employees who are experiencing the calm and reduced anxiety of not having a 2-hour commute every day.

I think they'd be willing to trade less efficiency for that calm. 😉

@KyleTibbitts @tcampbelltweets I think what you’re missing is how remote workers adjust.

I started working from home 1-2 days a week in 2010. At the time, I came to learn I wasn’t as productive at home

However, I kept tweaking it until I found a flexible system that worked for me (coworking).

@ScottHYoung I can almost guarantee you that most restaurants are not marking up their food 30% for all Grubhub orders.

Also: this is not a tax. These are the kinds of services charges that businesses feel they need to swallow “in order to compete.”

@jeremywblack Number 4 is mostly about a founder’s experience, skills, and connections as it relates to their sector.

I’d been podcasting since 2012, had built a bunch of product and marketing skills, and knew tons of podcasters & industry folks which helped me launch @TransistorFM with Jon.

@ianlandsman @jongold Ironically, Google had very little funding ($25 million. Turned on revenue from the beginning. Profitable within 2 years).

Also, all of those examples (cloud servers, phones) have lots of competition, and no really “owned” markets.

YouTube on the other hand….

@Manish_Ramesh In a business setting, the quality of an idea is determined greatly by how much market demand there is for that idea.

Your understanding of the shape of the demand for an idea will greatly influence your execution (and whether or not you've satisfied market demand).

@justincone For me there's another dynamic:

"In a business setting, the quality of an idea is determined greatly by how much market demand there is for that idea, and how you shape and execute on that idea so it satisfies the market."

• by the time you’ve chosen your market segment, most of your pricing decisions have already been made for you. You’re going to be anchored to what customers expect to pay in your category (and what competitors are currently charging).

This gets to the core issue:

Do you want "pop music" ("I just want the artist to make the same kind of music over and over again") or do you want the artist to explore new genres and topics that interest them now?

Neither is "bad;" it's a personal consumer preference.

@ajlkn @vanschneider @csallen @Noahpinion I used to think this way, but unfettered “making” without any critique isn’t responsible.

For example, historically, the best writers had a trusted group who would challenge their thinking and critique their work. (The Inklings, for example)

How many folks have we seen create a product, who then try to shop it around, but can't find customers?

Skills, or products, are only valuable if there's customer demand for those things.

When it's not lead by demand, you run the risk of having something that nobody wants.
