“So, what’s a good churn rate?”

👉 It depends on too many variables to give generalized advice.

“Do lower priced plans churn more often?”

👉 Generally, yes. But their growth rate is often quite a bit higher! Depending on your market, a lower priced plan might be the way to go.

@JackEllis @CoWorkVernon It’s simpler than you think to set this up.

We started with four people, found an office space for $800/mo, and just split the cost.

We created the environment we wanted to work in.

Eventually we opened it up to other members, but it started small.

@evoterra @iChris @CaptivateAudio @omnystudio @TransistorFM There’s no “subscriber api” for most listening platforms, which makes subscriber counts difficult to measure.

We average out the first 24 hours of downloads of your last 3 episodes to calculate an estimated subscriber count. The graph is an estimated count over time.

"False balance is a bias which gives unsupported or dubious positions an illusion of respectability. It creates a public perception that some issues are scientifically contentious, though in reality they may not be."

@rsobers Except the “experts” Rogan is choosing to talk to are often folks on the fringe like Dr. Malone.

It’s a side-show dressed up like journalism.

No editors, very little fact checking, very little retractions/corrections, very little balance or genuine reporting.

@selvarajashish @jstnchu Students have an incredible opportunity to approach leaders in your field and ask them for advice:

“Hi, I’m a student at [university], and I’m looking to break into [topic]. Can I ask you a few questions about your work? I’m curious about..”

Folks ❤️ giving advice to students.

@louisnicholls_ Yes! That’s a huge benefit.

I noticed this while I was working at a Project Managemen SaaS. We would get trials but they’d be like: “I gotta ask my team about this.”

At the same time, Nathan was showing me inviduals just signing up for ConvertKit with a credit card. 🤯

Pogs in '93?
JNCO jeans in '99?

$19/month --> $190/year
$49/month --> $490/year

@TimVanDijck This is why understanding the emerging Prosumer category is key.

There’s a spectrum of serious hobbyists, aspiring creatives/makers, and brand new (tiny) SMBs that are worth considering (and who make incredible customers).

@stephsmithio The flip side is that most decentralized mediums (blogs, email newsletters, podcasts) can’t provide that level of consumption analytics.

It works for YouTube because they control the whole experience (the player, hosting, etc)

But I don’t think that would be good for podcasting

@manast That’s a good question: how are billionaires like Musk (and Bezos) able to spend hundreds of millions of dollars (personally) if they have no (taxable) income?

(Answer: Musk has taken out $548 million in loans [using TSLA stock as collateral] to avoid paying income tax)

@JordanGal tax/accounting complexity is my least favorite form of this. 😄

It’s similar to why we don’t accept PayPal. That one, seemingly small, change adds a massive amount of headaches.
