@brtkdotse In this case, businesses are not “paying” the sales tax (the customer is).

Businesses are being asked to collect sales taxes on behalf of different international governments.

Most of the businesses I know have no problems paying corporate income tax.

@earthlingworks @asmartbear @mattwensing @mynameis_davis I remember Jason responding this way!

TBH, this is also how interact with many SaaS websites now:

“What does your product do?”

“Well you see, we’re really into fully actualizing your company’s potential.”

“No, what does it do?”

“I mean, we reduce founder stress and blahblah”

When you search "how to start a podcast," what page/position is Transistor's page on?

Lots of articles explore the short-term benefits of a price increase ("MRR is up! ARPU is up!") but don't explore how the long-term effects.

@emd @BenBajarin @TransistorFM 👋 We'd be happy to help you at Transistor (or answer any questions you have).

Most folks switch to us from those two for:
- host multiple podcasts on one account
- nice podcast website themes
- ability to do private podcasts
- a simpler, more modern UI
- better customer support

It feels like you could also argue that slow, steady, thoughtful actions often produce better results.

@olivi_eh I'm not sure there's *a* solution.

Better urban design, transit funding, and fundamental changes are all needed.

But moving an entire global society is difficult, takes time, and has nuance.

I think EVs are a small part of the solution.

Carl Newport describes this dynamic (referencing Sherwin Rosen's "Superstar Effect"):

"Why would I ever listen to the second-best podcast on a topic if, for the exact same effort, I can get the best? Why would a buy a Monkees record if I can get the Beatles for the same price?"

@arvidkahl For existing products (like @TransistorFM), I send an automated email asking customers how they found us. If they respond, I ask for specifics: "Do you remember what you typed into google when you were looking?"

I also keep track of search terms in @ahrefs.

On the other hand, a band that gradually builds up a loyal following can rely on showing up in certain cities and playing to a few hundred people.

They're not relying on a "smash hit" or lots of fame. They can keep releasing music, touring, and getting a regular paycheck.

Sudden fame is particularly problematic.

For example, some bands have a surprise smash hit and get popular really fast.

But they can't sustain that level of popularity. When the masses forget about them, they go from playing arena shows to small casinos. It feels devastating.

One of the challenges for entrepreneurs (and perhaps other careers) is that you don’t get rewarded for the same things in the market as you did in school.

I don't know how much more of a beating the Tesla stock (and Elon's net worth) can take.

Even the richest man in the world can't burn cash forever (especially when he has to sell a rapidly depreciating asset to do it).

So far he's sold $19 billion in shares (~10% of net worth)

@BretFisher @TransistorFM Most of these networks are not worthwhile (and are just looking for a way to monetize your content)

They likely won’t increase your distribution; it’s a sales play (they’re going to try to get you advertisers)

Those ad deals aren’t great.
