We see this all the time when doing support for Transistor: some people think they have to be blunt and loud to get the service they need.
As
@jennschiffer says, they’ve been trained through past experiences to think that way.

This isn't just about delivering "more practical value;" it can also include emotional properties that people desire.
For example:
"I like the packaging better."
"This is the brand my friends use."
"I resonate with the founders' story."
"This company aligns with my values."

Customers are choosing between multiple options!
So ask yourself:
"How can I make my product/service the more attractive choice?"
The answer will depend on what customers value. It could be:
Pricing
Service
Features
Your story
Packaging
Reputation
Distribution
Product quality

Essentially, you've got to examine:
1. What do customers care about?
2. Of those things, which can you deliver better than anyone else?
I'm adding an example from my business shortly.

To compete with established brands, you'll need to figure out how to differentiate yourself in meaningful ways.
Think about:
1. What do customers care about? (product quality, service, story, community, values, features)
2. Which of these items can you deliver at a high level?

Anything you build will have to compete for attention with the other available options.
If someone can just as easily buy a similar product, from a more trusted brand, for the same price, why would they choose you?
To compete in a market, you have to stand out to get traction.

In business, you want people who are searching for a particular product/service/solution to find you.
But what people are really seeking is the best version of that thing.
If there's another business down the street that's better than yours, people will pick the better option.

Sudden fame is particularly problematic.
For example, some bands have a surprise smash hit and get popular really fast.
But they can't sustain that level of popularity. When the masses forget about them, they go from playing arena shows to small casinos. It feels devastating.
