There are always early movers who try to capture the market, but for a myriad of reasons they just can’t. Finally, an app comes along and really nails it, and they unleash this torrent of pent-up demand.

🤔 Maybe it's not "first mover advantage" that's helpful.

It's more like "first to breakthrough advantage."

I could add Symfony to that list too, which was often seen as a competitor to Laravel (and is still in active development).

A good reminder that any industry / incumbent can be dethroned if they don't keep up with what people want and desire.

We see this pattern frequently with products:

Initial products try to capture the market and fail, and then someone comes along and really steals the show.

- CakePHP, Codeigniter came first, but Laravel captured the PHP market.
- Campfire, Hipchat came first, but Slack won.

Pent-up demand isn't unleashed until there's a solution that satisfies an audience's desire for something better.

Every time someone tries and fails it just increases the desire for redemption and deliverance.

Don't mistake "B2Prosumer" for "B2B."

There are similarities, but lots of important differences:

1. B2P generally has lower LTV
2. B2P is much more price conscious.
3. B2P folks aren't making much revenue on their projects (if any) which definitely affects their motivation

The challenge we ran into: this is really a feature that needs to be built into existing platforms.

These membership tools have focused too much on solopreneurs and solo-creators.

We need to make it easier for folks to partner up, and make something together.

Back in 2013-2014, @akebrattberg, @codemarty and I worked on ideas for:

- Splitting revenue between partners
- Providing partnership agreements
- Making it easier for creators to collaborate on projects

Platforms like @Patreon, @podiadotcom, @plasso_hq are all built for solo-creators.

But what about partners?

The profile pages, payouts, and accounts are all built for individuals doing their own thing.

I want to see more options for collaborators!

This is a good reminder: resist complexity, both in your business model and your technology.
