Has anyone here built a mini ramp?

Looking for the best plans (especially since, from experience, I know the dimensions matter A LOT)

This is what I've found so far:

How to grocery shop during a pandemic:

1. Buy enough healthy food for 2 weeks
2. Buy enough snacks for 2 weeks
3. Get home and immediately eat all the snacks
4. Walk around the house for 2 weeks wishing you had snacks while the healthy food goes bad
5. Repeat

I’m hopeful for the future of our society, but only if we recognize the fundamental flaws in our current system.

It’s like programming: when your software crashes, it’s an opportunity to rearchitect things (or refactor) until the underlying flaw has been remedied.

@awilkinson There’s a threshold here. 😉

There are a lot of areas where we don’t have 100% control, but we can make a 1% difference.

- purchasing power for materials
- ability to pay for lobbyists
- ability to take advantage of the financial system (share buybacks, etc)
- ability to win in logistics, distribution, etc

@tobi @Square @LightspeedHQ @Shopify Awesome! 🙌

Increasingly, I’m realizing that independent shops could benefit from networks (similar to the old webrings) to recommend products for adjacent stores.

Is @shopify doing anything here?

@wizemanip I’ve had other people recommend this as well.

Stripe Checkout is great, but it really needs to be integrated into a retailer’s existing platform (Square, Lightspeed, Squirrel) for it to be helpful.

Also, Apple Pay is a gamechanger for local merchants (and indie stores online).

It's 1000% better than any other checkout system.

@Square & @LightspeedHQ need to integrate with them (and Google Pay) as soon as possible.

Kudos to @tobi & @Shopify for having it already. 🙌

I'm not beholden to any of these platforms.

I believe that e-commerce platforms have a responsibility to make the checkout experience as seamless as possible.

The more friction you add to the process (more fields, validation errors) the worse it is for small businesses.

And, as expected, the established remote tools are likely doing well:

- Chat: Slack
- Video: Zoom, @whereby
- Projects: Clubhouse, Notion, Basecamp

Platforms that help people sell their goods online are doing well:

- Digital ecommerce: @podia, Gumroad, Memberful, @memberspace
- Traditional ecommerce: Shopify, Square, Lightspeed

Almost every bootstrapped business starts with months (or more realistically, years) of "unpaid" work. You're risking your sweat equity hoping for a payoff in the future.

@rezzz Yes! There might be other lightweight ways to test this:

1. A Chrome extension that suggests other shops in your area with that item.

2. Small, delivery co-ops that allow local shops to ship goods faster within your town.
