I assumed that Ian and I were the intellectuals in the lounge, carrying on provocative discourse, while the rowdy people in the bar keep yelling “C’mon guyz! Just tweet fun stuff!” at us. 😜

@chasewreeves Very good article.

This is only going to get exacerbated because of covid, because the way to make it through a pandemic is to “have cash, and lots of it.”

@chadkoh Wow! What a ride!

Aspirationally, I’ve always been attracted to big, exciting cities.

But I have to say, it been nice to be in a (relatively ritual) small city like Vernon.

Like I said. The "d" key works.

The "Shift" key appears to work for all other letters.

Ok, "Shift + d" no longer works on my Mac.

No idea why. Small "d" works. All other capitals work.

Just can't type a capital "d".

Help?

@ryanchenkie The PayPal part doesn't matter (I just find it faster + cheaper than a wire).

The hardest part about this process is "the more days it takes to transfer money, the more likely you'll miss out on the best rates."

There is no additional tax implication. You are still receiving income and paying tax on it here in Canada.

@lucasarruda @bvujanov Yes. But still cheaper for me to get a direct bank transfer (via PayPal) then to bill a client’s credit card pay Stripe 2.9% transaction fee.

For smaller payments (SaaS, memberships, etc..) charging in Stripe still makes sense though. 👍

If you're a Canadian business (freelancer, solopreneur, SaaS) a great hedge in a recession is to serve American clients, and charge in USD.

Right now, the American dollar is worth 40% more, meaning every $1 USD turns into $1.40 CAD.

It's like getting a 40% raise! 😮

For 🇨🇦 entrepreneurs, my USD to CAD conversion workflow:

(Add Transferwise as USD bank in PayPal)

1. Get paid in USD via PayPal
2. Send USD from PayPal to Transferwise
3. Wait for USD to be 📈
4. Convert USD to CAD on Transferwise
5. Transfer CAD to my Scotiabank CAD account

@AswathDamodaran @YounglingAndCo @noahkagan Yup! I agree: once you identify the demand then your unique skills, attributes, product quality, leverage, connections, and resources all matter.

However, I think the order matters:
1. Market first
2. Then product/service

😉 (I mentioned that in the video as well)

@YounglingAndCo @noahkagan @AswathDamodaran This is why I'm not a fan of the pm-fit model. Too often, it puts the cart before the horse.

You could be the best at making foie gras, but that won't matter if the market only wants 🍔.

Sure, you can bring foie gras to the table, but that doesn't mean folks will eat it.

@YounglingAndCo @noahkagan @AswathDamodaran He was presenting it like this:

“First, determine the unique product you’re going to bring to the table.”

But, my whole point is that it needs to be:

“First, look at what the market is hungry for, and bring that to the table.”

How many folks have we seen create a product, who then try to shop it around, but can't find customers?

Skills, or products, are only valuable if there's customer demand for those things.

When it's not lead by demand, you run the risk of having something that nobody wants.

The publishing experience can definitely be improved, but it’s not that much more difficult than setting up a blog or YouTube channel.
