🔁 In business, customer acquisition & retention needs to be repeatable at a scale that supports your desired outcome.

“Software is all about volume.” – @ianlandsman

You’ll need a steady flow of new customers + existing customers who show up consistently.

@podcastharry Trying to think back. 😅

At 30 I wanted a remote job.

At 32 I got a remote job. Then I wanted to do consulting.

At 34 I started consulting full-time. Then I wanted to go indie with products.

At 36 I went FT with my course. Then I wanted SaaS.

At 39 I went FT on @TransistorFM

@rosskay Here in the Okanagan, we've had very few new listings in the last three months.

My assumption (and I could be wrong 😉) is that if there's a bunch of stale inventory it's because it's the "leftovers" (less desirable properties).

That "30%" could become "5%" with new inventory.

@rosskay We need way more context for this:

- what types of properties? (condos, vacant lots, houses?)
- is one region more represented? (Langley, CoV)
- how fast did the other 60% of properties moving?

Is it possible that all the quality properties sold before Xmas? (Leftovers)

💸 Evaluate how much it costs you to:

1. Capture customer demand
2. Create experiences that keep customers happy

Keep costs as low as possible.

You want healthy margins for your time, energy, and profit.

🥰 Keep in mind, you can’t just capture demand; you also have to satisfy it.

You’ll need strong product instincts and skills for:

- building features people want to use
- developing an overall experience that keeps people coming back
- helping customers make consistent progress

@jasonfried @tylertringas Again, I think I see this *slightly* different than you.

Yes, a surfer has a “gut instinct” for which wave is going to be good. That instinct has been honed, over years, by being in the water.

You should only trust your instincts if they’ve been honed to recognize good waves.

👍 To determine how much demand you can capture, ask:

- what unfair advantage do you have in this category?
- what unfair advantage do you have when it comes to distribution?
- what will cause people to switch to your product?
- what product gaps do you see?

@grodier @jasonfried I discussed that in my chat with Jason.

My guess is that for most folks, success looks the same: doing significantly better than paid employment.

Most of the bootstrappers I know initially aim for $10k MRR (per founder) in the first 2-3 years, and increase that to $20k later.

📈 To figure out how much demand is there for what you’re selling, ask:

- How have you seen demand for X demonstrated?
- How many people are paying for something similar?
- If they’re not currently paying, is there a strong enough pull for them to pay?

Business success is a function of:

📈 how much demand there is for what you’re selling

👍 how much of that demand you can capture and satisfy

💸 how much it costs you to capture that demand and create customer satisfaction

🔁 how repeatable the whole process is
