@dbchhbr Yes. I have.

But this is an “all hands on deck” situation.

We need every individual, corporation, government, and non-profit to be taking significant action.

Often, government action follows a groundswell of action from regular people like you and I.

@mike_julian @tylertringas Another way to do it would be to charge the airline industry for all their externalities.

That would be the true “free market” approach.

And then, there’s no “personal responsibility” angle.

Replying to @jonathanwmeier
@jonathanwmeier @Noahpinion I don’t like that form of defeatism: “well, if the US and Chinese governments won’t do anything we’re fucked anyway!”

We need action: government policy, clean tech, foreign policy, and to change the way we live and conduct business.

@evanpro This is where we disagree. 😉

The Interstate Highway System wasn’t built because a few activists wanted roads for their cars.

It was built because of a concerted lobby, and the spending on it was ostentatious: in the USA, the government paid for 90% of its construction.

Podcasts (like blogs) use RSS for syndication.

The podcaster hosts the MP3s themselves.

Directories (like Apple Podcasts) are merely linking to podcast media.

Podcast subscribers can subscribe directly to the RSS feed.

@tylertringas Yes, but even there, you still need to pay attention to the “macro trend” in the overall market:

Laravel is nothing without a huge base of PHP devs.

FeedbackPanda doesn’t succeed without billions of Chinese citizens wanting to learn English.

@tylertringas @anupom @dhomann @feedbackpanda Yes, part of the problem is that the definition of “niche market” isn’t quantified (by # of potential customers, or purchase frequency).

But when I hear people say “very small niche market” I think: “they must be referring to a market with only 100s of potential customers.”

I can’t think of any bootstrapped software companies that are in that position.

@secos But there’s one more important variable in there you missed: “how many people have that need?”

The size of the market matters.

If only a handful of people want it, it’s hard to build a comapny around that need.

@iannuttall @tylertringas @datanyze @nathanbarry “The market” is "X number of people actively spending money on Y."

It’s the category. Almost always, people are switching from one product in the category to another.

“Targeting a niche” can help get you a foothold; but that’s mostly a positioning exercise.
