@inversecos I have four kids (born 2002-2008) so I feel pretty connected to Gen Z. 😄

Although, I can see the divide as well. They definitely challenge me on a lot of my beliefs (which I think is healthy).

@JanisKelemen @helpspace @honeybadgerapp We’ve had it for 3 years, and it’s felt pretty significant.

Generally, even as a small team, we’re able to respond pretty quickly.

We often triage chats “on the go” on the Kayako mobile app.

@JanisKelemen @helpspace Gotcha.

Live chat is really crucial for us. It's one of the ways we stand apart from our competitors (we can often respond immediately).

We also need to be able to chat via iOS app (as we're often on the go, triaging from home, etc).

I’ve never tried a free community.

@jonnyburch @TwitterSpaces But, at $10B, that would be the 2nd most expensive acquisition ever for them.

(WhatsApp had 450 million users when they were acquired for $19B)

@AlexanderHaque Have we seen memberships work at "Facebook-scale?"

(Or even, "$10B purchase price scale?")

The biggest player that I can think of is Patreon, and their annual revenues are currently around $35 million.

@arthcmr I’m not convinced.

You only truly get a sense of how well monetization will work once it’s in place.

FB could already put all those ideas in place for their existing features (video, events, groups etc) but they haven’t done much there.

They’re still (primarily) an ad biz.

@jonnyburch If the ultimate aim is to integrate Clubhouse into Facebook's social graph, it doesn't make sense for them to buy it for $10B (they could build it much cheaper, the same way @TwitterSpaces is).

If FB truly wants to keep Clubhouse separate, is it worth buying "6 million users?"

@ashabed Building the marketing site for https://transistor.fm was my first big web-dev project that I undertook by myself.

@mayankdhingra People get bored.

The experience becomes less novel.

The feature become available everywhere, and becomes less compelling.

Scammers, trolls, and marketers become more prominent.

(The monetization challenge is also significant.)

@mayankdhingra TikTok is still taking off. But it’s still relatively young.

Vine is dead.
HQ is dead.

Very few nascent social platforms make it long-term (or are able to stay independent).

@__tosh My experience on Clubhouse is just different I guess?

I’ve found 95% of rooms very low signal, lots of noise.

Every time you bring a new speaker on stage there’s a huge risk for more noise.

A few rooms *have* been magical; but it’s rare.

@sgatz There’s still not much algorithmic sorting for podcasts.

Getting featured on Apple is still mostly an editorial decision (anyone can submit a request to their team).

Increases in listenership is still primarily driven by WoM, ads, social, tapping into existing audienes, etc.

@_will_archer Lots of folks are trying to build the “podcast ad marketplace” (including Spotify (their existing tech + Anchor + Megaphone).

Nobody’s quite cracked it yet.

I wonder if it’s the “local” factor with radio. Are most radio ads sold by local sales reps that understand the market?
