@SebbeSelvig @JackEllis @taylorotwell We’ve had our space since 2014.

There will always be challenges, but we’ve made it easy by:

- not needing a bunch of members to pay the bills
- making it “not-for-profit”
- hiring a cleaner
- automating most of the onboarding and invoicing
- only working with folks we like

These days I also have my own dedicated private space, but I started out in the main room.

@aarondfrancis I realize I'm a novice, but `composer update` seems like a pretty regular occurrence, and these updates just whizz by.

I recognize spatie, symfony, but some of these I have no idea if they're trustworthy? 🤷‍♂️

(I realize the JS ecosystem has it worse)

@AlbanBrooke It’s so sad. Just devastating for all those people.

This would be like my hometown being obliterated (about 13,000 people).

@mattruby You seem to be giving a rationale for why he's popular (which I've seen DHH and others do as well).

I understand why he's popular.

I'm arguing that he (and Elon) are being irresponsible with their influence.

@typeoneerror It's the singular attention to one source (Elon/Rogan) that seems to be the problem.

(Listening to a plurality of news sources and genuine expertise is important).

There's hubris from Elon's "tech humanism" where he presumes to have the answer to all of society's problems.

@typeoneerror I think folks like Rogan and Elon have tremendous influence over the ways their fans think and act.

Their fans mimetically copy their thinking, attitudes, beliefs, and act out of those things.

@rsobers @JackEllis If you’re using the meals analogy…

Don’t meals made with rotten ingredients turn out rotten?

(Regardless of how long you cook them?)

And if a chef served you a rotten meal even 3/10, would you go back?

@typeoneerror Do you think that it was to the extent that it is today?

I’ve had lots of friends who enjoyed South Park, but it didn’t influence their thinking in the same way I see Elon fans mimicking his talking points + philosophy.

One definition of free thinker is: “a person who thinks freely or independently: one who forms opinions on the basis of reason independently of authority.”

If you’re forming your opinions independent of established expertise, that’s a problem.

@HarrisJosh hey! Just finished listening to your bonus episode on the “Rise and Fall of MH.”

As someone who left the faith years ago (after being in ministry for ~10 years) I really appreciated you sharing your story. 👍

But you’re right: know what you want (and why you want it) is an important step.

1. Teaming up with a co-founder who's really good at things I'm not allowed me to fully operate in my strengths

2. Serving podcasters (creators) is so fun for me personally. I love seeing folks using the product; I get hyped on their shows

3. I can run my days how I want!

You’d have to replicate the feed somehow (because we don’t allow the importing of the same feed twice)

Probably best to just reach out to our support and get us to make three different copies of your feed for you. 👍

c) vote at election time

Lots of actions we can take. 👍
