@cnagele for me, having a few “big deadlines” per year provides a good push. it’s sustainable because it’s generally 4 weeks of hard work, and then 1-2 weeks of sprinting... but then i go back to the old cadence.

If you get into an accident, you go to the hospital, and everything else stops while you recover.

Similarly, when your mental health needs attention, we should take a break and take care of ourselves!

1. How I'm treating myself (am I getting enough sleep? Am I stressed all the time?)
2. How I'm treating my family (am I snapping at them? Grumpy?)

There needs to be good communication about what you're intending to do, what it's going to take, and what the potential rewards are going to be at the end.
