More examples of "unsatiated demand:"

📡 @hostifi_net: Ubiquiti’s wifi platform is popular, but there was no good way for IT providers to manage installs.

📹 high-quality webcam: there's still a huge opportunity for a 4k, high-bandwidth camera, that syncs with pro mics.

@dvassallo Here’s the challenge for our society then: when an authoritarian presents himself, how do we clearly evaluate that threat, and call people out on it?

How do we not repeat what happened with Mussolini, Putin, etc?

@theashguy There’s a time for understanding and bridge-building, for sure.

But right now, I’m looking squarely at my family and friends who voted for this gangster.

If they voted for Mussolini or Putin I’d be calling them out too.

For the last month my voice has been scratchy and cracky.

I *think* it’s related to allergies (hoping to see the doc soon).

But...

Professional voiceover & radio people: have you run into anything similar?

Any tips?

Re-watching this, and I need to apologize to @petersuhm. (This came off as a hit piece, and that wasn't my intention. 🤦‍♂️)

I agree with most of what he said about cofounders:
- most expensive investor ever
- finding a good one is hard
- not the best cure for loneliness!

“We have no shortage of immediate ways of getting involved. But immediate changes are another story. There's kind of an instant gratification culture: ‘I worked for Bernie Sanders, he didn't win. I'm going home.’ That's not the way political change takes place.” – @noamchomskyT

Small companies don’t have an accounting department. They don’t have a legal department.

They don’t have the resources to wade through the regulations and make themselves compliant.

3rd party services that do tax compliance are just a bandaid.

@yongfook You're "ratcheting up" to that number. It takes time to get up to 200 trials per month (you start at 10, then go to 30, then 50...)

My point is there's a "floor" where the fundamentals make sense.

Accounting for churn, trial time, etc.. you'll need hundreds of trials (not 10s).

@dvassallo Lots of folks are mentioning we shouldn't have sympathy for Basecamp because they're a "billion-dollar company."

I'm just pointing out: it took them 21 years to earn that kind of revenue, and other beloved companies (like ConvertKit) will likely achieve that as well.

So much of business success happens when an entrepreneur stumbles on a market with a lot of demand.

"Instead of trying to create demand, they're managing the huge demand." – @sivers

The next key to success is how you respond to that demand: what you offer and how you offer it.

The best markets have a healthy amount of word-of-mouth: people naturally talk about certain products/services because there's strong inherent demand.

The reason people will share *your* product/service is they like the way *you* do it.

Somehow, ~10.5 million people were able to find Joe's show every week, using the open standard + iTunes.

That's doesn't mean RSS (or Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, Overcast) can't be improved; but it's incredible how well it's working already.

@antdke I was initially really excited about UBI. I think it still has potential (I wish we had more real-world tests of it in practice).

Maybe part of my problem with it is it’s framing? What if we, as citizens, had more ownership over all the profits being generated by automation?

Ok, "Shift + d" no longer works on my Mac.

No idea why. Small "d" works. All other capitals work.

Just can't type a capital "d".

@GregorySchier So much of “writing” is really about thinking, testing out ideas, revising your thinking, running into new thoughts, trying to form frameworks of understanding, etc.

Then, you have to encapsulate (translate) all that lived experience/thinking into something that makes sense. 😜

@Shopify @tobi @stripe @patrickc People who are saying this is a "policy problem."

I agree; governments need to act!

But climate change is an “all hands on deck” situation.

We need every individual, corporation, govt to be taking action.

Often, government policy follows a massive grassroots movement.
