@adamwathan definitely. Although, sometimes just being really passionate about the topic / audience is enough.

.@adamwathan scratch your own itch is a good place to start. You just need to make sure there's a big group of people who are also itchy. 😜

@ParkerAKlein yup, that approach can work too. Just make sure there's a significant group of people that shares that struggle.

There's only one way to find a good product idea: observe real people, and recognize the real struggles they face.

@atroyn replace "boss" with "client." 😉

Solving "the boss'" problems is *particularly* fertile training for building software because it's "the boss" who'll be paying for it!

Want to build something awesome? Start small.

Go to work every day and ask: "How can I make my boss' life easier?"

Trying to create things that "make people's lives better" brings up tons of existential questions.

How *deeply* do you care about people?

In practice, it's way harder to provide people with a real benefit.

We BS our rationale: "oh yeah, this will help people."

Does it really?

Quit focusing on *you* and focus on *them*.

Quit worrying about how *you* look, and make *them* look better.

The question you need to ask is:

"How does my art / my product / my work make people more awesome?"

@iChris Don't mix theology and politics.

You just end up with bad theology.
