Does design matter for marketing?

Yes! Good design makes your message more clear and appealing. It's the elements that help reduce customer anxiety.

Bad marketing design? That's anything that creates anxiety, distaste, confusion, or slows the process the down.

- convince one person to hire you
- do the work
- deliver the results

Afterwards, ask yourself: "how did that feel?"

If you're feeling good about it, iterate and improve.

#microconf is such a successful conference now, it's hard to imagine them ever struggling to get attendees.

But... that's exactly how it was in the beginning.

When you don't know the history, it can seem like the founders were "awesome from the beginning."

@MichaelThiessen I do very little sales in Canada (my home country). That report isn’t as helpful. 😜

PayPal emails me these overview reports every month.

They’re actually “not bad,” and might even be actionable.

For example: most sales happen on Weds? (Going to check to see if that’s when I send out most sales emails).

We’re way too quick to critique other people (and their work) online.

Give it some time.

Examine the context.

Ask yourself: “am I being kind?”

If you’ve earned the right, critique privately.

Encourage folks to be better; nobody responds well to negativity.
