My plumber is sending me drip email campaigns.

I do not need a drip email sequence from my plumber.

I spent the last 3 weeks writing this piece but missed my Saturday morning deadline for sending it to my newsletter list.

Should I send it now? Or wait until next Saturday morning? 🤔

@_brandswell Very difficult to overcome the inertia!

Community organizers want something different, but many members are used to being in Slack.

There are alternatives:

- Spectrum Chat

One of the best ways to increase your margin is to decrease your footprint.

@mattragland There are things that are priced too high though, right?

I see products and services all the time that seem too expensive.

I’ve also lowered my prices before and had more people buy.

There are many factors that make a price “work.”

Desirable + useful:

Some products have utility, but nobody’s really searching for them.

The desire can be for the product itself, or the outcome it provides.

@__xuorig__ @TransistorFM I like this idea! I'll work on something today.

Generally:
- Jon and I use Skype, and we each record our individual audio in Quicktime (and use Skype's recording as a backup)
- @SquadCastFM also works well for this.
- Each person should have a decent mic. Jon uses the Samson Q2U

@KarlLHughes In my experience, and based on the data I’ve seen from other folks, you definitely need more than 100.

Also, if you sell courses, as most of the examples in the a16z article do, you’re going to need to sell another 100 copies to another 100 fans every year.

@JordanGal I’ve thought about this a bunch as well.

If you need $50k-$100k, a loan seems like a great option for a bootstrapper.

You keep all your equity, and only need to pay back the loan once (as opposed to 2-3x, or dividends forever).

Even at 15% interest, it’s a good deal.

@seanwes Yes.

I think we need to distinguish between “taking initiative” (getting started) and “putting in the reps.”

It’s taking initiative that gets me to the gym that first time. But, hopefully, I’m doing the right exercises (with reasonable form) almost immediately.

*What* you choose to repeat matters a lot.

Putting in the reps only works if you’re focused on the right muscle, skill, market, or project.

*How* you do your reps also matters: if your form is bad you won’t make progress.

@seanwes It seems like: “show up every day, but make sure you’re headed in the right direction” is the important qualifier.

I’ve met weary business owners who have showed up every day for 20 years, but they never ended up where they wanted to be.

Common advice:

“Just put in the reps.”
“Just show up every day.”

In practice, “put in the reps” won’t work if:

- your fundamentals are bad
- your desired outcome is unrealistic

Doing more of “what’s not working” is not a good strategy.
