@samudesosa I don’t hate the idea of blockchain, I hate the ecological impacts.

There are other open protocols (email, RSS, http) that have far smaller footprints.

(We can’t trade one problem for another. If we don’t have a 🌍, none of this matters)

Facebook (Zuck) and Spotify (Ek) bemoaning the loss of the "open internet" is completely hypocritical.

50% of this conversation is Zuck and Ek complaining about Apple.

Apple's not perfect, but hearing Zuck and Ek talk about a "level playing field" is absolutely laughable.

Both Facebook and Spotify play the same games: monopolistic control wherever they can get it.

OMG. Zuck:

"If you want to give everybody a voice, give people free services that are ad-supported. And people, if they see ads, they want to see relevant ads."

Bullshit.

Nobody wants less privacy, more tracking, and creepy ads that follow you around the internet.

Spoiler: large, multi-national corporations (and their CEOs) don't *really* care about individual creators.

They want:

- all of the leverage
- centralized control
- as much of the upside as they can get

Once they control distribution, they apply downward pressure on creators.

Thanks to everyone who’s ever recommended @TransistorFM to a friend, co-worker, client. ❤️

We constantly have folks sign up and say “My friend recommended you!” 🙌

We’re a small company, and your referrals mean a lot to us. 🥰

At @TransistorFM, Jon and I have always done support.

For the last two years, we’ve also had help from P/T contractors. (Very helpful, especially for other time zones or when we want to take time off).

We are in the midst of hiring a F/T Director of Customer Success. 🤞

Lots of folks excited (and investing in!) Gumroad's big crowd equity campaign today.

Crowdfunding seems like an awesome opportunity for founders (especially those who have built up social capital).

But I'm still unclear how "good" these campaigns are for investors? https://twitter.com/mijustin/status/1356731802698674176

@whale @jongold I’d have to see the numbers you’re referring to.

So far, I’ve seen a lot of false equivalency in comparisons. Isn’t Youtube apples to oranges?

Also, I have complained about data center usage (and Google’s overall footprint) in the past. We need to be reducing everything, no?

@jongold I’m pro artist, and pro experimentation.

But the climate effects of crypto are concerning.

Does the solution have to be crypto? Is there another system that could also work and benefit artists, without the excessive energy use?

@Shpigford Let me restate this, and see if it changes your framing:

“Scientists say climate change is a problem and we need to *act* now, collectively, in order to save the planet.”

How can we, as humans, come to a consensus in a reasonable amount of time, in order to act?

@shl Sure. Ok, but doesn’t your first tweet relate to our present, lived reality?

In a human century, some things will be bubbles, others will prove revolutionary, and others will be fads.

(And, still other phenomena will be none of these things)

Your initial tweet seemed binary.

I suppose in the “fullness of time” most human artifacts are ultimately meaningfulness. 😄

@_erod It’s still a good question.

In your case, the answer to “what have you done to solve the problem?” is “nothing, because the social cost for me to ask the VP is too high.”

The answer is a good indicator of how much inertia there is around project management software.

The follow-up question: “what have you done to find a better solution? What alternatives have you tried?”

People often dislike their current solution, but not enough to actually do something about it.

Inertia is a strong force. https://twitter.com/hnshah/status/1370584849661054979

@Shpigford Here’s an example:

Scientists tell us we should be worried about climate change and doing something about it.

In this case, it matter who is right (If scientists are right, we don’t have a planet).

It feels like that’s worth figuring out who’s right?
