Not all boundaries are good, and society is always evolving.

But having a common understanding of what's appropriate, and what's not, in a variety of contexts is helpful.

An acute example: "You can take off your pants in your house, but you shouldn't if you're on Zoom."

Our para-social relationships on Twitter can make us feel like we can say something personal to someone we follow, even though there's no real relationship there.

It might be OK to ask a friend: "You doing ok? You look tired."

But writing that comment on YouTube? Not OK.

Twitter also creates "para-social relationships."

These are one-sided relationships that make us feel like we know somebody, because we follow them online.

It can feel like we have a friendship with them, even though they don't know who we are.

On Twitter, we're also navigating relationship boundaries.

I've met incredible people here, many of whom I "tweet" with regularly.

But... how do we define our relationship? Are we friends? What's the threshold? What expectations should we have for each other?

Twitter has been called "the cocktail party of the Internet"

But we say stuff here that we'd never say if we were in the same space:

"I hate the new design of X; it's awful"

We express views like this freely online, but it would be rude if the designer was with us in the room.

The challenge for Twitter: IRL, these use-cases have established social conventions.

For example: if you're about to attend a local meetup, you probably already have an idea of what's expected, and how to behave.

But here, the norms aren't clear, and use-cases often collide.

Defining boundaries on Twitter is challenging.

For some, being on Twitter feels like being in a small room with their favorite people.

For others, it's a megaphone to express their opinions and critiques.

Others use it to find content.

(There are a myriad of use-cases)

That’s the time to unplug.

For me, when I keep going, I can feel it. I’ve overexerted myself.

It's cliché, but the best decision I made for myself was finding a therapist.

I get a lot of questions (especially from dudes!) about how to find the right counselor.

This is what worked for me:

@mattmedeiros @CasJam @tylertringas The thing is… nothing is really easy.

Discovering demand for a product, getting the resources to build it, finding people to help you, executing in a way that satisfies the market….

All super hard.

For me, partnering up has made it 1000x better. (Might not work for everyone)

@CasJam @tylertringas No, definitely not “find by Q2.”

Way more organic than that.

(But, the more of this intention & practice you put out into the world, the more likely it is to happen when you need it)

@CasJam @tylertringas Regularly putting the intention out is a good first step though:

"If you're open to it, I'd love to partner with you on this. I think I could really bring a lot to the table."

Or:

"Are you interested in partnering with me on this? You'd bring a lot to the table."

@mjwhansen Generally, podcast CPMs (cost-per-thousand-downloads) are at $25.

But there's a lot of variability.

Some podcasts have small "high-value" audiences that charge a lot more. Other podcasts have massive audiences that charge less ($15 CPM).
