This is why I use @getRewardful for tracking campaigns: it was built for attributing SaaS revenue in Stripe to specific affiliates.

But instead of using it just for just affiliates, I also use it to track all my marketing campaigns.

It gets even more complicated if you have a free trial.

Google Analytics just wasn’t built for SaaS’s customer lifecycle:

trial, conversion, upgrade, cancel, reactivate

Trust me, if you have to replicate all the customer info you have in Stripe in GA, things will get messy.

Google Analytics really wasn’t designed to track recurring revenue.

If you search “tracking SaaS revenue in google analytics” the top results basically tell you it’s difficult. It requires multiple hacks that aren’t great.

In practice, having to send Google Analytics customer data like this is a nightmare.

If they’re blocking GA, miss the thank you page, etc google doesn’t get that information.

Also, often this part of the funnel is misconfigured, and not correctly attributing revenue,

In order to track Stripe transactions in Google Analytics, you need to send the customer back to a “thank you” page on your site, so Google’s tracking script can work.

There are tons of problems with this approach.

Then, I started focusing on keywords where I thought we could gain leverage.

It's definitely a limited data-set, but confirms a trend we've seen on @TransistorFM's side: shows that appeal to Gen Z have way more listeners on Spotify.

But burning hundreds of millions a year in the hopes of making LPs rich isn't my idea of efficiency. 😉

Yes, they might be "efficiently reaching their goal" of 20x returns, but they still burned the fuel.

Follow-up: Gen Z dramatically prefers Spotify and YouTube for podcast listening (especially when compared to other generations).

Forgot to mention: this allows you to get subscriptions in your Stripe account now, even if you don’t have your own billing system setup yet.

Using a no-code tool like @meepsapp you can get people to pay for early access to your SaaS, fill out a profile, invite them to Slack or Discord, and send them email updates.

(I think it's the best way to launch a startup)

Biggest takeaway:

Building a community of early-access customers (true believers!) is a super power.
