I've seen many parents start a business (hoping it will lead to "more family time") only to have the business consume most of their time, energy, and attention.

What was supposed to give them more freedom ended up robbing them of their freedom.

@joetannenbaum Thanks for sharing it. 👍

I’m trying to normalize the idea that we don’t have to be super humans; it’s OK to take one thing at a time, to simplify, to create space for the period of life we’re in.

@mbuckbee So much of people's experience depends on the other variables in their life. 😉

Personally, I found WFH wasn't the answer, but remote work *was* the answer (because I eliminated a daily 1.5-2 hour commute).

@adamrochette Yeah, it’s weird.

Physically I feel my age.

Intellectually/mentally I feel my age. (I’ve learned and experienced a ton since my 20s).

It’s more like “spiritually” I feel younger than I am.

@ianlandsman @mateusjatenee Governments (especially the G8 and the EU) could introduce legislation that effectively slows down AI research by the big firms (Microsoft, Google, etc) until we can better understand what's in the black box.

@ianlandsman @mateusjatenee From a technical policy POV, I'd defer to AI experts like Dr. Stuart Russell who believes we shouldn't move forward until we understand what the black box is doing.

From econocmic policy POV, we need to (finally) enact policy that shares the upside of automation with workers.

@ianlandsman @mateusjatenee What you’re calling “doom and gloom” I feel is more:

“Let’s take a moment to really consider the ramifications.”

I like AI! I use it.

But I’m simultaneously concerned about it.

Being concerned isn’t automatically “doom and gloom”. 🙄

@ianlandsman CHIPS Act could be a good job creator for high-skilled workers.

But the overall trend is clear: since the 1980s tech disruption is a net destroyer of jobs.

Governments will need many more initiatives like this one, and it’s going to need to be funded by… (taxes?)

@ianlandsman Yes: we can legislate what happens when automation takes away good jobs from workers.

The benefits from automation, AI, etc shouldn’t just go to the people at the top.

The upside needs to be distributed.
