@joshuaanderton @ConvertKit @wpengine Lots of momentum in those markets! In that:

A) every day new customers enter the market
B) every day existing customers need “more” (more power, expanded limits, more uptime)
C) every day there are customers switching from one provider to another

@supremerumham Yup! I remember seeing that.

It's just one case, and there are definitely folks making it work, but there's not a lot of them!

@mapdev Yes! I've been using @DescriptApp for quite a while!

I use it mostly for generating transcripts, but I know some folks that do all of their editing in there. 👌

@CupOJoseph For me, my best businesses have come from being active in an industry, community, or space, and observing there.

What’s the last piece of software your boss bought? Why’d they buy it? What caused them to pull the trigger?

What’s everyone in your industry using?

@JoshuaPDawson I worked for a Project Management software startup.

It's a really difficult market for a number of reasons:

1. Decisions are made by committee
2. Each stakeholder wants something different (engineers just want the tool out of the way, project managers want to see everything)

@kirkbyers @tylertringas Yes, "usage" here is a rough rubric for "getting ongoing value."

Think about when the boss is evaluating expenses. What do they say?

"Hey Janet, are we still using Pager Duty or can I cancel it?"

@mnlfrgr It definitely depends on the market, the type of product you’re selling, and the outcome you’re looking for.

I’ve run $100/month+ SaaS businesses as well; we still needed a healthy number of prospects showing up each day.

@robfitz This is fascinating:

- "I bought Recursion because @pjrvs recommended it."
- "I recommend Obstacle by @RyanHoliday because it's about overcoming adversity in life and in business."
- "I didn't enjoy SB. I was hoping to learn something new, that I hadn't heard before."

@theSamParr I think some level of patience + calm is a positive thing.

A lot of business is "gradual and then sudden."

It's the accumulation of years of creating, experimentation, and building relationships.

@mattwensing I agree with you that it's not just one factor.

But sometimes when I tweet, I choose to focus on just one idea.

For example, I've been writing about "willingness to pay" for a long time.
