Why I still prefer web apps: you don't need to manually "update" a web app.

Businesses need to spend money.

They spend money on two things:
1. Things that make them money
2. Things that save them money

What we want from a website: hours of operation and location. What we get: slideshows, company history, news, events, contact form.

@_rchase_ The USA is one of the best places to build a business (in the world) due to the cumulative political decisions that were made in the past.

Year to year, you might not notice the difference, but visit any country with decades of bad government, and you'll see how that can affect…

@marckohlbrugge In this case, it’s a pejorative label.

It’s valid (and necessary) to criticize anyone in power who is behaving irresponsibly, illegally, or dangerously.

(In the same that wouldn’t accuse anyone of having “Putin derangement syndrome”)

It might be “derangement” if you’re criticizing folks who:

- have no power,
- whose actions were inconsequential,
- and were behaving admirably.

But we’re talking about two of the most powerful people in the world who are behaving in clearly reprehensible ways.

@christophrumpel @inxilpro People are tired of the vibes here: tired of being penalized for posting links, the algo, etc.

That “Starter Pack” feature made it really easy to find/follow people on b-sky.

I heard about this newsletter on a podcast; really enjoying it.

Every day, they look at a big story from the perspectives of both left & right news sources.

It’s refreshing to have a place (in this partisan climate) that examines both sides of a story.

@asmartbear @heyjoshwood You should check it out again - in the last week there’s been a big migration over there, and there’s way more activity about founders / startups.

The vibe and energy has been noticeably different.

@derrickreimer I agree, and I think it’s a UX/business decision that’s hostile to users.

Showing people video of gruesome murders in the feed because it has a high engagement score is the epitome of hostile UX.

@aarondfrancis I didn’t say I’m quitting: just that this site has gotten considerably worse under the new ownership.

Having to:
- avoid “For You”
- block liberally
- deal with way more spam
- seeing awful ads
- not seeing posts & replies from friends

isn’t “better” than it was.

However, my guess is that the market for tools is at most 10% of that number.

@joshdkoop @ianlandsman I’ve watched full, unedited Trump speeches. I’ve observed his behavior, listened to what he says, and watched him as a business leader and a politician.

He is discernibly reprehensible in innumerable ways. (Even when compared to the average politician)

@joshdkoop @ianlandsman Nope. Not even in the same ballpark.

No politicians are perfect, but Trump is orders of magnitude worse than most politicians/business leaders.

I’m Canada, I’ve voted for both conservative and liberal candidates. Despite all the online rhetoric, Trump is a special case.
