I really wish I could set a "mic delay" in @ScreenFlow the same way I can in Ecamm Live.

@dvassallo Surprised you were able to get land that cheap in the PNW!

Up here in BC, especially in the southern interior, lots are super expensive.

@RikNieu So much of this depends on you, and your unique perspective.

My perspective doesn’t matter as much; because if I see opportunities (that I’m well suited for) then I’ll pursue them myself. 😄

The key question is: which opportunities do *you* see, that others might be missing?

@pekpongpaet That's not what I'm talking about.

This is about looking for evidence that money is being spent in a category, or other evidence of demand.

@arvidkahl I think in our context, audience largely means “a group of people who have assembled to follow someone on Twitter, blog, podcast, newsletter, etc”

It’s key characteristic is that it’s attached to a person.

“I’m in Jerry Seinfeld’s audience.”

Anyone here have thoughts on spray foam insulation? (Toxicity + how it might affect home resale value in the future).

This is the stuff that’s in the house we’re thinking of buying.

@usefathom When one multi-national controls most of the distribution in a space, creators always lose.

Look at how FB used their leverage against news publishers.

Look at how record companies and Spotify screw artists.

Look at how Amazon is lowering affiliate rates and copying vendors.

@yongfook My story includes numerous footnotes that ended up being significant:

- Having two teachers for parents
- Getting a VIC-20 in 1983
- My dad hiring me to do computer work at the school when I was 10
- Being homeschooled in grade 8, getting to write a ton and explore online
- etc

• When you read pricing guidelines, be wary of how you apply them. Pricing depends on the market you serve (and the amount of demand in that market), the economic environment, your costs, what customers will pay, and what the competition is doing.

@masonhensley Yup. I was a fan of the centralized model too (for a while).

But truthfully, when I had my snowboard shop, the best brands I dealt with had no middleman.

I've often said, even if no one was listening, I'd still want to do @buildyoursaas with @jonbuda.

Just having someone to process things with (out loud) is 💯.

Podcasting has many ancillary emotional benefits. 😄

These Main Street shops saw their businesses destroyed, almost overnight.

If we can do anything to make their lives easier + better, we should!

(Isn’t that the primary mandate of UX?)

@jayclouse Yup, strategy does matter.

But it seems that the size, energy, and characteristics of the “wave” matter most.

No matter what your strategy, you can’t surf a flat wave.

I think the market you choose is the biggest multiplier, and after that it strategy that needs to kick in.

“For what is at stake, in a pattern that lives, is not merely the fact that it makes us feel good, but the fact that actually liberates a portion of the world from the imprisoning effect of concepts and opinions.”

- Blackberry (with 3G)

- Nokia E62 (with 3G)

There was lots of demonstrated demand for those features before the iPhone was launched.

@lucasdotjs People often can't (or won't) articulate their desires honestly.

But... their actions tell you the real story. People search Google, ask for recommendations, and make purchases every day. That's the evidence you're looking for.

@__xuorig__ @TransistorFM I like this idea! I'll work on something today.

Generally:
- Jon and I use Skype, and we each record our individual audio in Quicktime (and use Skype's recording as a backup)
- @SquadCastFM also works well for this.
- Each person should have a decent mic. Jon uses the Samson Q2U

@seanwes It seems like: “show up every day, but make sure you’re headed in the right direction” is the important qualifier.

I’ve met weary business owners who have showed up every day for 20 years, but they never ended up where they wanted to be.

There are definitely folks who catch waves their first try. (it’s rare)

More likely: you start young, and get lots of reps in while you have free time.

That doesn’t mean those of us who are older (kids, etc) can’t get there.

(But, having less free time does make it harder.)

Every market has a “main product,” as well as things that are ancillary to that main thing.

Unless the main market is huge, it’s hard to make a business from the ancillary market.
