Our desire to belong motivates so many of our decisions.

Herds follow the leader:

I saw @BoostedBoards right when they launched.

But I didn't WANT one until I saw @CaseyNeistat riding them.

FOMO definitely extends to products.

BTW - it’s not a personal fear, it’s social.

It’s the fear of missing out on a societal phenomenon.

We saw this with Slack:

It “felt” like everyone was switching, and teams were scared about getting left behind. (A bit of FOMO too).

One of our first questions when evaluating a product is: “what are people saying about it?”

Human beings are still very much herd animals.

Often, the reason people switch to a product is based on “who else is using it.”

Herd mentality plays a big role.
