@czue @plehoux I think we’ve done a fairly good job of optimizing Transistor for fun.

There are projects and tasks that are definitely not fun (integrating with large partners, legal, accounting, and admin issues), but on the whole, I think it’s mostly fun. 👍

Following these values, and…

Most opportunities in life are a result of:

1. Your connections: who you know and who knows you.
2. Your skills: the value you can add to the world.
3. Your assets: money, equity, resources.

These are all things you build up over time.

For me personally, every thread I've woven into my life (experiences, projects, events, skills, relationships, jobs) culminated in me founding @transistorfm with Jon.

Transistor became a success largely because of the actions we took in the past.

Think of your life in threads:

Every action, project, person, event, skill, experience, and experiment are threads woven into your life.

Your opportunities are a result of these threads.

For Microsoft, GitHub Copilot is popular it loses money. Despite its $10/month subscription, the company lost between $20-$80/month per user.

Demonstrating your product in public is a great catalyst for product improvement.

Making YouTube videos for @TransistorFM helps me become aware of UX issues that need to be fixed, and opportunities for new features.

(Livestreaming accomplishes this too)

@calebporzio This!!!

I do this all the time: start a video, only to realize we need to fix/improve something. Demonstrating your product in public is a great catalyst for product improvement.

@mbuckbee Really great write up!

We’ve been hesitant to rent booths at conferences, but I like your principle of “de-risking” the investment by committing to multiple actions (card game, LEGO car, etc). 👍

For me, "more margin for life" has been a consistent driver of happiness.

@mattwensing We definitely survived, but (in Canada, at least) surviving on $36k with a family of 3 was tough.

After taxes, we had about $2,000 monthly for rent, one car, food, diapers, clothing, student loan payments, etc.

Today, $2k wouldn't even come close to covering my mortgage. 😅

The early 2000s was a hard time to graduate. The dot-com bubble had just burst, baby boomers were staying in high-paying jobs, and it was hard for a new grad to make a living.

I made around $36,000 in my first year after graduating.

That might have been doable if I was a normal…
