Personal recommendations are an indicator that you’re on to something:

“I just bought this, and this is how it changed my life...”

☝️ folks (usually) only share products that have given them progress.

This is true product-market fit:

1. Do they pay for it?
2. Do they use it?
3. Does it give them the outcome they want?

Most of us aren't going to be superstars at ONE BIG THING.

Instead, combine together your:
- strengths ("extreme focus")
- weaknesses ("anxiety")
- skills ("public speaking")
- occupation ("programmer")

and create a persona that's unique to you.

Also: Amazon is awesome for finding and ordering books...

But they suck when it comes to browsing for toys and video games.

90% of the time, when a friend wants a website, a one-page site on http://carrd.co is good enough.

If you’re a geek, and people ask you to make them a website, just get a pro subscription for yourself.

Also love @tferriss’s approach to facing a challenge. He asks himself:

1. “What might this look like if it were easy?”
2. “What might this look like if it were fun?”

@JoshDoody “The timing problem” is a unique conundrum!

Salary negotiation has such a short window. People need to discover you, and your solution, before the window closes.

Trying to think what other businesses are similar: H&R Block maybe?

@j_mcnally It’s *very* cringy.

The villain is especially terrible. So much of the dialogue is awful.

But there’s something about that hacker hangout in NYC that just transports me back.

(Plus the soundtrack is 🔥)

As a kid who’d been hanging out in BBSes and alt.2600 in the early 90s, “Hackers” felt special (even though they got tons wrong).

“Sneakers” is still (probably) the best made hacking movie, but “Hackers” is my favorite.

Confession: I owned this on VHS.

Year is 1995.

I imported it (analog to digital) to my crappy Pentium.

Made a fan edit (mostly cut out the parts I didn’t like).

Couldn’t share it (YouTube didn’t exist).

Every year, the volume of Black Friday promotions increases.

(even consumers who want the deals appear to be overwhelmed)

The secret, I think, is to segment your audience, and offer them one highly targeted deal (as opposed to many).

Bundles are still performing well, but well positioned "single product" deals seem to be cutting through the Black Friday noise.

Less: "I got this great bundle!"
More: "I got a great deal on *this specific thing*"

@marketingdevs Interesting observations from today:

1. Twitter is driving way more sales than in the past.
2. Email is driving less % of sales than it normally does.
3. Simple emails (less text, no images) with one offer are performing better than emails with multiple deals.
