I’m not saying positioning is the *only* thing you need; but the market you choose, and how you orient yourself towards them, is very important.

“Well made” products don’t win.

It’s products that are well made, target a growing market, and are well positioned that win.

Laravel (@taylorotwell’s impressive PHP framework) is growing like crazy right now.

So @adamwathan was perfectly positioned when he launched his Test-Driven Laravel course.

Would it have done as well if it was focused on .NET?

And yes, timing plays a big role in positioning.

The trick is to find a “big enough,” emerging market that’s growing.

When @nathanbarry initially targeted his email newsletter app at “people who were frustrated with MailChimp” growth was slow.

It wasn’t until he positioned @ConvertKit as “email marketing for professional bloggers” that growth took off.

Positioning!

Reading @nathanbarry's year in review (it's good, go check it out).

One interesting bit is how quickly book + course revenue disappears when you're not actively working / launching it.

@codyschneiderxx It's definitely worth testing.

It depends on the nature of your newsletter.

If your newsletter is always a "link roundup" it can work (thinking about @hnshah's SaaS newsletter)

I'll be vulnerable here for a moment.

In this landing page for my bootcamp, I'm promoting two different dates.

The message gets muddled! This page would be way clearer if I was just promoting one event.

I see a lot of emails / landing pages that give the reader too many options (2-3 links to click on).

It rarely works.

Focus on *one* thing. What's *one* thing you want to promote?

Your SaaS' homepage doesn't need to be complicated.

"Download a sample proposal."

He's laser-focused on that one CTA.

(Look how small the "start free trial" link is!)

First observation/question:

Often, users don't regret using the technology until much later. It could be months, or years, later until they realize a technology has been destructive.

How can we account for this?
