THANK YOU @PairWithTuple for hiding notifications while I'm on a call.

I just screen sharing with @steveschoger and was pleasantly surprised to see my notifications appear only *after* the call was done. 👍

It's calming to know that you're thinking of the small things. ❤️

One thing about podcasting, speaking, writing: we really are touching people's lives.

When we share our experience, vulnerably, it can have a significant impact on others.

Our words can help folks think differently, act differently, and try new experiments.

(Words matter!)

When we launched, we had $750 in MRR (from 51 beta customers).

In the last year, we’ve grown to over $22K in MRR (and 1,183 customers)!

So thankful to everyone who’s supported us along the way. 🙏

I haven't told very many people about this, but I built a quick tool that lets you compare your podcast's cover art compared to other shows in your category.

Useful to see if your show stands out!

@jonbuda and I just had a great call with Jason. He gave us some ideas on how Basecamp's new book, "Shape Up," might apply to our (tiny) team of two co-founders.

Folks keep mentioning “the iPhone” as an example of product that didn’t have preexisting demand.

A pocket computer that allows you to have all your music, play games, browse the web, AND MAKE PHONE CALLS?!?

The market demand was visible previously with GameBoy, BlackBerry, iPod

Another way to think of market demand:

It’s the wind in your sails.

You can build the ship (your product) but without the wind (market demand) you won’t go anywhere.

The strength of the wind will determine how fast you’ll go.

If there's no market momentum in the direction you're headed, it means there is no demand.

If it's a genuine need, there should be evidence of a current behavior:

"I use Excel all the time for this." (Airtable comes in and capitalizes on the existing behavior)

"I just BCC hundreds of people." (Mailchimp makes this existing behavior easier and better)

@louisnicholls_ Yup. 🎯

But there's almost always evidence of a *current behavior*.

If there's no action in the direction you're headed, it likely means there will be no demand.

@justinvincent Lots of evidence for current behaviour around this:

- Product demo videos
- Animated demonstrations
- Slideshows

@HDa2nd You don't think there was already evidence that people were paying for water, before bottled water?

Lots of evidence (water cooler, filtered water).

You can't "create" a need.

You can only respond to a need that's already present in the market.

The products we create are a response to current demand.
